About Lisa Phillips
Lisa Phillips is a Step-Parent, Best-Selling-Author, Arts and Leadership Consultant, and Entrepreneur. She is most known for her book, The Artistic Edge: 7 Skills Children Need to Succeed in an Increasingly Right Brain World. With the Foreword written by Raymond Aaron (New York Times bestselling author of Chicken Soup for the Parent’s Soul), the book explores the impact arts education has on the success of the current generation. The Artistic Edge reveals creativity and leadership as crucial skills for today’s young people to develop in order to compete in the global job market.
Lisa is passionate about helping children, parents and teachers succeed and become the best version of themselves. She is thrilled to share the tools she has used to become happy and successful with you through this website.
She holds a degree in Psychology along with post-graduate certificates in Arts Administration and Children’s Mental Health. In addition to her formal education, Lisa learns from coaches and mentors who have achieved significant results in their areas of expertise.
Lisa has more than 20 years of experience working with children and young adults. In addition to her 10 years as a summer Camp Director, Lisa has worked in both film and television; has taught Musical Theatre to children and youth for more than a decade; and has had senior roles in the not-for-profit sector. Her professional experience goes beyond the arts and leadership sector and extends into business as well. Very much an entrepreneur at heart, Lisa worked for a highly sought-after entrepreneur doing marketing and business development for his international coaching company. She also owns a successful business in the technology sector.
Most recently, Lisa has expanded her reach beyond arts education to include resources in the areas of parenting, step-parenting and homeschooling.
“As a step-parent myself, I have overcome many challenging situations in a wide-range of family dynamics especially with children and ex-spouses. I feel compelled to share what I know with those who need some help. I am excited to help families with step-parents and step-children create happy, healthy and thriving home environments.”
Her passion for helping step-families has inspired Lisa to publish her second book, Step-Parent of The Year, which will be released soon. Lisa continues to consult in the areas of arts education, leadership and parenting.
Lisa currently lives just north of Toronto, Canada with her husband and 3 step-children. She still actively participates in the arts through piano and Latin dance. She is excited to provide meaningful and valuable resources to parents and teachers through this site.
Since her book, The Artistic Edge, was published in late October 2012, Lisa’s work and opinions have gone viral. She’s written three articles for The Washington Post, which together have reached over 150,000 social media shares. For National Arts Advocacy Day in the U.S.A., Lisa had the honour of joining world-renowned cellist, Yo-Yo Ma, and Guns N’ Roses drummer, Matt Sorum, in an Americans for the Arts panel discussion about the importance of the arts. She has also been featured on Rhino OnAir, Global TV, Americans for the Arts, The Toronto Star and dozens of arts and leadership websites around the world.
